The United States becomes a what can be considered a world power at the end of the 19th century.  The Spanish American War and the acquisition of Hawaii meant the United States gained new territory including Hawaii, Cuba, The Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico.  This time period is also when the entire world changes with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary which sparks World War I and forever changes world history and sees the United States end its isolationist vision.
